Project 52 - 7  Kings Canyon

Back when I was in high school I used to dream of getting a 35 mm camera.  I would look through magazines for years, before one summer I made enough money to buy my first 35mm SLR.  As soon as I got my camera I went to Kings Canyon and photographed this wonderful place.  Owned by a doctor in town, he used to let people swim here at the cool water just below Arkansas Rock.  I spent many days here enjoying the scenic sights and photographing people here.  As a matter of fact, this was my first studio location for portraits.  A few years later the college crowd discovered the area and would have parties and trash the area.  The owner placed cans here for people to place the litter and had a sign that said "Do Not Enter if You Are Going to Liter".  He gave them a chance and he shut down the area.  There are signs across the creek that have "No Trespassing" on them, but I did not see any near the swimming area.  You are on your own if you go here, but I think it would be OK just to stop by for a look.

I call the large rock in the water "Arkansas Rock" because it is shaped like the state of Arkansas.  You can climb up on the rock and jump into the water.  The light was not the best, but I only had two hours today to go photograph, so I will take what I can get.  I brought James the travel Gnome along to check out the area.  James found a Gold Card in a tree and was pleased!  That's it for now, have fun and take lots of photographs.

GPS cords for the area are N 35 32.529, W 093 28.932.  Enjoy!
