I really like the IS lenses! I have a 500, a 100-400, and a cheaper 70-300, and the IS makes a big difference in allowing some handheld shots that would normally be impossible. I also usually leave it on while on a Tripod, though the manuals say that is unnecessary.

Thanks for the reply. Canon's IS is very good. Kevin showed me how good the IS work an a windy day while in Alaska. Makes a big difference! Hope to get a big lens someday.
