Photography Discussion Area > Lens matters with digital.

One thing to consider is the quality of the glass you put on your digital camera. We had always had sharp images in the studio. Using f/8 or higher our images were very sharp and we were always very pleased. However, when we shot outdoors [most of our sets are in the shade] we were shooting a close to wide open aperatures in order to keep our shutter speeds in a respectable range.

We noticed our outdoor images very soft. Was it something we were doing wrong? Camera settings wrong? No! That was not the issue. With digital, the camera has to make up data in between pixels. As a result of this interpulation, bad data [lens inperfection] gets into this interpulation. The results are a soft image.

We switched to the expensive glass [ ED for Nikon and L for Canon] and it made all the difference in the world. We now have sharp images outdoors. Wow! What a difference the glass makes in digital.
