New section soon!

I guess digital camera's will be on Santa's list this year.  It is estimated that 90% of the people will be digital by the years end!  So with the need to share some info, I will be making a tips section for all you new and (old) digital photographers.  I use Photoshop CS on a PC and most of the tips will be geared to that.  I know some of the tips will work in Photoshop Elements, but you will have to try them on your own.  You can always leave me a question in the discussion area of the blog.  I may just put some of the tips there, so others can ask questions and learn from there.

There is just not enough daylight to do all the things I would like to do.

End of year rush!

I am trying to finish some end of the year items for the blog.  I am half way through my journal from my Utah trip this year.  I need to send it to Kevin to edit (he does this well) and get some pics ready for the gallery.  I was able to buy a used Canon 1Ds a month ago and have been pleased with the results with the camera.  I still have the Canon 10D, which is a great camera also.  I love having 11.1 mega-pixels to play with.  I hope to have a little more time in 2005 to do more journal updates. I have three journals I keep up and need to narrow them down.  Have a happy holidays!

Slide show at Lamar School

Friday I did a slide show for Lamar 5th grade class on Alaska.  The kids had lots of questions and did a great job.  It was neat listening to their comments about the images.  My daughter had a big grin on her face the whole time and I asked her what it was all about.  She said " I am proud of you daddy!".  What a great kid!  I will have to do some more stuff for the school.  Thanks to Mrs. Thornton for asking me to do this show.

Back from Moab

Made it back from Moab and will be uploading some images and my journal in a few days or so.  The Canon 10D performed great and I love my 24-70 f/2.8L lens.  I used it for about 90% of the shots in Arches National Park as well as Canyonlands National Park.  I was able to go back to town every few days and upload my images to my lap top and burn them to CD's.  Then I would hit the local internet cafe "Slick Rock Cafe" and upload some of my images to one of my blogs at Blogger.  Here is the link to it http://bmwrider2.blogspot.com/ .  More to post in a few days.

Equipment to take....

Now let's see, I am a digital photographer......so I need my laptop! It's amazing how my equipment list has changed over the past few years. Okay, here is the camera equipment I will take so far:

  • Canon 10D camera
  • Canon 17-40mm f/4L USM
  • Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L USM
  • Canon 28-135 f/3.5 - 5.6 IS USM
  • Fuji S1 camera
  • Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5 - 4.5 AF ED
  • Tokina 20-35mm f3.5 - 4.5 AF
  • Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 AF Macro
  • Polarizer filter
  • HP laptop

This is my camera bag for this trip.  No need to bring the big glass because I will be doing landscapes.  The reason I will be bringing the S1 is for a back up system.  I only have one Canon camera for right now.  Kevin is going to bring his 10D as a back up for me , but I need to bring my S1 along.  Maybe I'll let it be my snap shot camera!  I'll post more on this as time permits.  The 24-70 mm f/2.8 will be a new lens for me and I hope it arrives before the trip.

Compact flash has gotten cheap!  I just ordered 2- 512meg high speed cards for $85 each at PC Mall today.  I love PC Mall, they have great customer service, quick shipping, and carry just about everything.
