Bishop California Radio Telescopes

As mentioned, I have been very bad about updating my blog.  So I guess I will start in reverse order of things I have done since my last post 3 years ago.  Kevin and I did a fall trip in 2016 to Bishop, Alabama Hills, Bristlecone forrest, and Bryce Canyon.  One of the main reasons for going to these areas are that the night sky is really dark and taking milkyway images and night sky photos there is good. I am a Canon shooter and I also own Nikon gear (I shoot Canon and my wife shoots Nikon) we are a house divided.  I took my wife's D700 and compared the images withmy 7D and the Nikon had less noise with night time images.  I did take both cameras, but shot the Nikon a lot at night.  Using the CamRanger to do my night time settings and triggers, both cameras worked great.  I will have to show you some of the cool features of the CamRanger in some future posts.

The following image is at the Owens Valley Radio Telescopes captured using a Nikon D700 and a Tokina SD 16-28 F2.8 (IF) FX lens.  I am really happy with this lens, it is great for night sky photos.  I will post more images and information as time permits.

Need to update.

Wow! I got a request for some information about the McNeil River and directed a Flikr user to my website and realized I have not posted anything in a very very long time! I will attempt to do some updates sometime soon.

Yellowstone elk in early morning light.

The circus of photographers continued as we went to Yellowstone.  On this morning there were so many photographers and tourist's around it was crazy.  We waited around and this buck came out from the shadows of the mountain to come out and look for some more ladies.  As he did, he stepped into the nice morning light and I was able to get this image.

Barn in morning light.

This fall Kevin and I went to the Tetons for some fall colors.  It had been about ten years since we had been there.  The first day we went to the barns and there must have been 50 or 60 people showed up for the sunrise image.  The tour industry as well as the amount of people with camera's are causing some of the popular areas to become over crowded.  As the crowd disappeared and went to the next place or off to breakfast, Kevin and I just hung around.  Ten years ago this same thing happened, sunrise did not last long and was blocked by clouds of an incoming storm.  Everyone leaves, but we hang around waiting for the sun to peak through the clouds and light up the barn with the dark background.  Then it happened for about a minute and we were there to catch the action.

Need an update really bad!

In the process of making updates to the broken links from my Posterous posts, I have realized I have neglected this site in the worst way.  My intent was to keep it updated and I have noticed how far behind I am in posting.  Over the holidays I plan on updating and getting my images up as well as the information about the sites I have visited.  A slow process, but a much needed one.
